Duo Arraigned in Memorial Day Weekend Shooting

JONESBORO, AR, June 29, 2015 – Scott Ellington, Prosecuting Attorney for the Second Judicial District of Arkansas, announced Monday a duo charged in the Memorial Day weekend slaying of Nelson McCollough appeared in Craighead County Circuit Court this afternoon.

Ladarius Lee, 18, and Tonisha Mitchell, 21, were formally arraigned Monday before Circuit Judge Victor Hill. Judge Hill scheduled a hearing for July 24, 2015, to hear defense motions for bond reductions filed by both Defendants. Their pretrial appearance will be on September 1, 2015, with a jury trial scheduled for September 14, 2015.

“On behalf of the people of the State of Arkansas, I have charged both Lee and Mitchell with first-degree murder, which is punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison,” Ellington said. “The state’s case is proceeding forward.”

McCullough was gunned down in his home at 1312 W. Monroe Avenue.

History of the Case:

On May 25, 2015, officers from the Jonesboro Police Department responded to the scene of a shooting at 1312 West Monroe Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers located the victim on the ground. CPR was being performed. The victim was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.

The victim was shot once in the chest, and once in the head.
