Jury Convicts Dixie Man of Residential Burglary and Theft – Sentenced to 30 Years

LAKE CITY, AR, March 1, 2016 – Scott Ellington, Prosecuting Attorney for the Second Judicial District of Arkansas, announced Tuesday that Craighead County jurors convicted George Guthrie, 47, of Dixie, of residential burglary and theft of property.  The jury returned its verdict late Tuesday afternoon after a one day trial in the Eastern District Courtroom.

Circuit Judge John Fogleman followed the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Guthrie to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. He was convicted of one count of residential burglary and one misdemeanor count of theft of property.  Guthrie broke in to a fishing cabin at Williams Landing near the St. Francis River in Craighead County.

Ellington commended the work of the Craighead County Sheriff’s Department and specifically Deputy Chris Kelems and Investigator John Varner; as well as Craighead County Deputy Prosecutor Charles Finkenbinder, who prosecuted the case.
