OSCEOLA, AR – District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington announces today that Circuit Court Judge Dan Ritchey convened a Mississippi County grand jury in Osceola on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. After hearing the matter presented, the grand jury handed down an indictment charging Dakota Dunkin, an officer with the Osceola Police Department, with the offense of Battery in the Second Degree. The charge resulted from an officer involved shooting on April 1, 2019, wherein Pete Denzel Edward, 24, was shot during a traffic stop. The indictment charged: “Dakota Adam Dunkin on April 1, 2019, in Mississippi County did commit Battery in the 2nd Degree against Pete Denzel Edward by recklessly causing serious physical injury with a deadly weapon…” Battery in the 2nd Degree is a D Felony in the State of Arkansas which carries a potential sentence of zero to six years in the Arkansas Department of Correction and a fine up to $10,000.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
